Gilson College

Chaplaincy

We encourage all students and families to actively engage in our college community and to feel a strong sense of belonging. Our hope is that every person at Gilson would get to know and reflect Jesus Christ, our perfect teacher.

Our Chaplaincy program offers practical and emotional support, making referrals to professional services as needed. Chaplains serve as the first point of contact for students, providing a confidential and nurturing environment to address concerns.

The Chaplaincy team are also vital to the spiritual growth of our community by coordinating weekly worship experiences, such as chapel and staff worship, and fostering discipleship and connection. Our Spiritual Emphasis Week celebrates student involvement and leadership through dedicated week-long activities.

The program also includes optional small group Bible studies to develop our students' understanding of the Word. Students are encouraged to lead in various church services and participate in the Combined Schools Day of Worship, uniting students from five sister schools in the Victorian Adventist School system. Our chaplains often convene parent prayer and Bible study groups, fostering a strong, spiritually-connected community.

Chapel Bands

Chaplains assist in the formation and operation of chapel bands. This allows students to develop their musical skills and confidence in performing for their peers and teachers. (See below.)

Spiritual Emphasis Weeks (SEW)

Our Chaplains organise two SEWs each year for secondary students, inviting dynamic speakers to lead this incredible praise and worship time.

Bible Studies

Years 5 - 12 students can participate in individual or small group Bible studies, at their own request.

Adventurers Club Ages 4 - 5, Pathfinder Club Ages 10 - 16

Our Chaplains began our Pathfinder Club, which encourages students from age 10 – 16 to develop life skills, including leadership and communication. Events include regular weekend meetings, day hiking, and overnight camping. Students over 16 are provided with the opportunity to develop leadership skills through the club.
